My mother-in-law could cook! She taught me so much from the time my husband and I were married which is over 40 years ago. She didn’t always measure her ingredients, and it’s a habit that I now have, but when she baked, she measured. I wanted you to see her handwritten recipe that I still have today, so I have attached it to the recipe itself.
Maw Maw's Chocolate Pound Cake

- 2 stks butter
- 1&1/4 cups milk

- 1/2 tsp salt

-
Beat butter and shortening until fluffy. Add sugar slowly until well blended. Add eggs, one at a time and mix well between each egg.
Mix flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa in bowl and mix together.
Turn mixer on slow speed and add flour and milk alternately then add vanilla. Only mix until all is blended together.
Pour into well sprayed tube cake pan or bundt pan.
Put into cold oven. Turn on oven to 350 degrees. Cook for 1 and 1/2 hours then check for doneness. Cool until toothpick comes back clean.
This cake is so good, so moist, beautiful and tasty.
When my husband and his older brother were young, they waited for her to bake a cake. One of her cakes fell during the cooking process but the boys still wanted to eat it. They thought it was delicious so every time she baked a cake, they would sneak into the kitchen, open the oven door and close it loudly so that it would fall. She couldn’t understand why that kept happening until one day, she caught them.
This cake doesn’t need to fall to be good. It is delicious and I recommend it over any other Chocolate Pound Cake that I have ever had.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my family does.
